There seems to be a pretty consistent piece of feedback people give me once they’ve gotten to know me — “Wow, you’re so much nicer than I thought you’d be.” For years this was totally puzzling to me (duh guys, I’m super nice). I got this comment in high school, in college, but work seems to be the place I get the comment the most. Finally a boss stared me in the face and gave it to me straight, “You have a real resting bitch face.” Woah. My whole life of being told I looked mad, sad, mean, bored, all explained with 3 little words — resting bitch face. And I totally do! It was a revelation. Some people look approachable and friendly at first glance, a natural smile is gracing their face… I just don’t have this. When I try to pull of the “casual resting smile” (ya know the one that nice people seem to be able to do while walking down the street alone) I look creepy and murdery because the expression just isn’t how I naturally rest my face. I also rarely smile with my teeth which doesn’t help matters. I thought I’d share because I can really see my RBF peeking out in this post. I am not naturally a big smiler, but I am naturally quite happy! Promise 🙂
