{work it wednesday} best healthy snacks for a sweet tooth

work it wednesday

Whoop whoop, we’re half way through the week! Last week I shared my fave salty and savory low calorie snacks so this week I thought we’d talk about a personal fave…sweets! There are so many yummy ways to curb a sweet tooth craving, here are a few of my all time favorites…

healthy low calorie snacks for a sweet tooth1. Apple + Peanut Butter + Honey +  Greek Yogurt = CRACK

This is so good and so healthy. In a bowl I mix plain Greek yogurt, honey, cinnamon, and peanut butter and stir stir stir! I slice an apple for dunking and enjoy as a midday work snack or as a post workout refuel — perfect since it’s packed with protein!

2. Frozen Mango — Nature’s Ice Cream

A friend gave me this tip and my life will never be the same. Enjoy frozen mango chunks as is (delish) or blend with a tiny splash of water/coconut water and you basically have sorbet. SO GOOD. You may have seen these are the base for every smoothie I make. Thick and creamy and absolutely healthy.

3. Green Juice / Protein Bar / Clementine

These are the power three that keep my sweet tooth at bay while at work.

  • When I get to work I am already one cup of coffee deep and I am TIRED. Enter the ever-trendy green juice! I make it at home, grab one at Starbucks, or head to Juice Shop SF.
  • In the afternoon when I need something sweet and filling, Quest Bars (in cookie dough) are filling and free from a lot of the garbage in other bars.
  • Lastly I always have some fruit at my desk just in case my brain tells me I need Sour Patch Kids. This usually curbs that urge.

4. Yogurtland Done Healthy

There are two types of FroYo trips — the kind with a massive serving of double  chocolate yogurt and every candy bar and gummy topping in site. Orrrr the trip where you get a little tart yogurt and pile on fruits like mango, peaches, strawberries and pineapple. Feel free to throw in a piece or two of the bad stuff — just make it overwhelmingly nutritious and the trip’s not a total splurge.

5. Banana Cocoa

Husband’s fave. Dunk banana slices (bonus points for frozen!) into a tablespoon worth of Trader’s Joe’s cocoa almond spread. It’s cocoa + almond butter and completely addicting.

6. The Low Cal Ice Cream Sundae

I like to keep my processed food to a minimum, but this is great if you just need an indulgence without breaking the calorie bank. A scoop of Arctic Zero (150 cals for the ENTIRE carton. If you don’t know now you know.) + half a bag of Skinny Cow Dark Chocolate Turtles = 90 calorie ice cream sundae. I also sometimes add a tiny scoop of vegan cookie dough…see below!90 calorie chocolate chip & coffee ice cream

7. Lemon Sparkling Water

This last one looks lame and sad, right? I would never claim that water is a replacement for homemade cupcakes or french macarons, it’s totally not! It’s just sometimes when I think I need a candy bar, what I really need is water. To keep it a bit more interesting I opt for sparkling and add some lemon. Still want more, try one of the other 6 options above!

How do you keep your sweet tooth in check? I’d love to hear in the comments below! (plus dont’t forget to check out my January workout playlist here!)

It’s like you read my mind! I’ve been really trying to eat clean, but there always seems to be something bad at my house – whether it’s chocolates delivered from a brand I’m working with or friends who leave food at my house. I need to keep my fridge fully stocked with healthy sweet things so that I don’t go overboard on the bad stuff!

    • So glad you like! I struggle with the same thing — if bad stuff is in the house, I eat it. I’ve been toying with the idea of sharing my “clean” grocery list and the meals I make with it. 🙂

I had to admit it, but I recently jumped on the New-Year’s-Resolutions train of trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle this year. Breakfast, lunch, & dinner have been easy to make healthy substitutions in meals, but my sweet tooth is killing me already! LOVE these suggestions – they came just at the perfect time 🙂

My favorite is a simpler version of your first one – apple slices and almond butter. seriously addictive. <3
